First-Ever Blog from a California Water District launched by Central Basin
Commerce, CA–(HISPANIC PR WIRE - BUSINESS WIRE)–February 22, 2008–Central Basin Municipal Water District has launched what may be the first blog ever offered by a water district, providing first-hand insights into the highly political and ever-changing California water industry.
Central Basin’s blog, the “Water Cooler,” is a public online journal of information and ideas viewable at http://www.centralbasin.org. Just a few weeks old, the blog is already gaining significant popularity, averaging over 300 hits daily.
“A few years ago, I don’t think many people in the industry, myself included, imagined we would be venturing into the world of blogging to provide reliable, up-to-the-minute water news,” said Central Basin’s General Manager, Art Aguilar. “However, with changing times comes new and improved ways to reach our growing community — a community that is increasingly found online.”
From the California water crisis to available scholarships and community programs, the blog allows Central Basin staff to directly communicate with a range of audiences, particularly the cities, water utilities and residents within its service area. But they’re not the only ones you’ll hear from.
“One of the best parts is that you won’t just be hearing from us,” said Aguilar. “We’ve recruited many other top water experts to share their stories, news and events with our online community.”
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, the Long Beach Water Department, members of the California Urban Water Conservation Council (CUWCC) and several LA County cities have already expressed interest in contributing to the Water Cooler.
