MIAMI, FL — July 22, 2024 — (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) — The American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora and ArtesMiami are proud to host the Miami premiere of the award-winning documentary "Ellos Gritan Libertad" (They Scream Freedom) on July 26 and 27 at 7 PM. This powerful film offers a raw and unfiltered look into the courageous protests for freedom that erupted throughout Cuba on July 11, 2021.

Directed by the award-winning filmmaker Melinda Raebyne, "Ellos Gritan Libertad" captures the essence of Cuban resilience through personal stories, exclusive interviews, and evocative poetry from within the country. The film is narrated by Tommy Clark, a brave individual who risked everything to smuggle footage out of Cuba, in hopes that the world would see the truth about what’s happening in Cuba and be moved to do something.

“Ellos Gritan Libertad” paints a vivid portrait of a nation on the brink, screaming for freedom and dignity against oppressive conditions. It features contributions from notable Cuban-American celebrities including actor/producer Andy Garcia, Grammy-winning music producer Jorge Gomez, actor/producer Laz Alonso, and activist Rosa Maria Paya, enriching the narrative with their insights and artistry.

“Miami, for me, was the only place where the premiere for ‘Ellos Gritan Libertad’ should be, the voices from those on the island joining the voices of those in Miami demanding ‘Libertad!’,” Raebyne said. “With all of us coming together to uplift their voices with ours, we become a massive wave, a typhoon, a tsunami in demanding freedom for those in Cuba, a basic right, a human right. Most importantly, we are saying to those in Cuba ‘We hear your pleas. They have not fallen on deaf ears. We stand with you. We fight with you. We see you, we hear you and you matter.’”
