LOS ANGELES, CA — September 5, 2024 — (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) — The filmmakers behind the much-anticipated documentary Ugly Little Monkeys, co-directors David Valdez, Enrique Castillo, and executive producer Edward James Olmos, are proud to announce a special red carpet screening of the film on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles. The documentary tells the remarkable story of the first youth mariachi group in the United States, the original Los Changuitos Feos de Tucson, and explores how music can bring together and empower communities.
The evening begins with a pre-screening reception in the atrium including authentic Mexican delicacies provided by El Comal and the finest handcrafted wine provided by Napa Valley’s Ortega Family Wines and Fathia Wines followed by the film screening to the sounds of mariachi music. A Q&A with the filmmakers will conclude the evening, offering attendees an opportunity to delve deeper into the making of this inspiring story.
In attendance will be original Changuito members who appear in the documentary, the filmmakers, special guests, several celebrities and filmmakers who will be there to show their support for the film, adding a touch of Hollywood glamor to this celebration of cultural history and community empowerment.
Ugly Little Monkeys captures the journey of a group of young musicians who, against all odds, became a cultural phenomenon, leaving an indelible mark on the American music landscape. Through this film, the filmmakers aim to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and resilience of the Mexican-American community, while also highlighting the unifying power of music.
Grant support provided by the Eastside Arts Initiative has been instrumental in bringing this significant cultural history to the screen. At the private red carpet screening attendees will be treated to an elegant evening that honors not only the legacy of the youth mariachi movement but also the filmmakers' commitment to preserving and sharing this important narrative of U.S. Latinos.
